41 months

Grandma and Grandpa were here for a few more days and we took our first trip out to the beach. I can't believe it took us three months to get out there but we finally did and still didn't really go to the beach. We had a nice lunch, everyone behaved, and J even tried calamari and liked it (then again we told her it was chicken, who doesn't like something that is fried?). After lunch we took a walk on the beach and J loved the water and the waves. I even showed her how you can dig in the sand and find the perry winkles. Brought back so many memories as a kid from when we vacationed in Sanibel. A real trip to the beach is called for soon!

J's school put on an end of the year Art Show to showcase the students work from the year. It was a wonderful event and the teachers and director put so much time into making this night special for the families, it was really like going to a gallery. Everyone dressed up and the kids were surprised to see their teachers so fancy!  J was only there for three months and didn't have nearly as much as the other kids but had quite the little collection of work to show us. She got a blue ribbon for her Strawberry Basket Painting. Mommy was most amused at her monster artwork in which she depicted her sister as the monster! She has done so well at her new school since we moved, I hate that she will be moving schools again in the Fall and hope the new school is as great as this one, if not I will just move her back!

We celebrated mommy's birthday at the new burger place that opened in the mall, J wanted a burger so that is what she got. The burgers were yummy and both of the kids behaved pretty well. We came home and had cupcakes, of course J wouldn't let us forget that they were at home and that we had to eat them. She sang to me in both English and Portuguese, it was a quiet uneventful day which was actually nice.

We spent a week in Miami and while we were there they finished our pool (except they forgot to hook up the heater and it was cold)! We finally got to use the pool right after Mother's Day and someone is loving the water and is a fan of wearing her sun shirt and sunscreen! Speaking of Mother's Day, we got to finally pull our grill out of the garage, had some steaks and I got my first card where J signed her name herself, she still needs lots of practice but she is doing well for three and a half.

We went on an outing with the Mom's Group to the fire station. The firefighters did a good job engaging the 1-5 year old age range but most of the kids were scared when the one FF got into his fire suit, especially J. Once the suit was off she was interested in the tour of the station, was the line leader and repeatedly asked to see where they sleep. The FF giving the tour was amused at her and her many questions she kept asking him! Our tour got cut short, they got a call and had to respond to a medical emergency. We got to watch them get ready (they didn't get suited up since it wasn't a fire) get on the truck, turn on the lights and sirens and pull out,  pretty entertaining. A couple FF's who weren't called out let us look at the rest of the engine fleet that was in the garage. The tires on the trucks were taller than most of the kids! We had a nice time and met some new friends.

The end of the school year came way to fast. It seems like it was yesterday that we were moving and she was starting, the first four months in our new home have flown by. The school put together a small moving up ceremony to graduate the kids to the next class (well J has to repeat the three year old class since she really should have been in the two year old class, at least she is moving to a new school so it won't seem like a repeat to her). Daddy worked from home that day so that he could come. We practiced the three songs her class would be singing for weeks leading up to the big day, J knew all the words and one of the songs was even picked for her love of the book Port Side Pirates (which they read a few weeks back during Pirate week). Well the day came, she wouldn't wear a dress like the other girls, I was told "shorts are for school", so she wore her fancy shorts. The ceremony started and as the students were walking in she realized there was a big crowd, started crying and freaked out! Her one teacher got her to come in and take her seat and when it was time to perform she went to the stage with hesitation and just stood there and sang not one note! She probably had all the words down better than all the other kids but her being six months younger than them all really showed. Maybe next year she will have less stage fright.

We spent Memorial Day weekend in Miami where someone was obsessed with singing Christmas tunes, it's not July yet! We went to Hibachi (Auntie V's family restaurant) one night for dinner, from afar J loved the fire and show they put on, up close as soon as they squirted the oil and lit the fire J screamed bloody murder, you really would have thought someone was trying to hurt her. It took a while but she finally settled down and ate rice, steak and shrimp. Guess we won't be going back anytime soon, or if we do we'll have to ask them to hold off on the flames.

J's love of puzzles and match game continue, we do at least one of them each day. She is doing much better at her coloring and drawing. This is a picture she drew on her Doc clipboard, it's a picture of Doc's stuffed Lambie, not bad for her age! She loves to paint and work on art projects, she had fun with the towels we did for Mother's Day.She continues to ask me all of the time "what are we going to do", she like to keep busy just like her mommy!

Here are the pictures from the month.
