Soccer continues to go as we expected, our little free spirit is out there doing her own thing while the rest of the team plays (she is #2). She volunteers to be the goalie and also to sit out so she can dance and pick flowers on the sideline, at least she is out getting some exercise so I can't complain too much! Their team played for the championship and lost to the #1 team, they
couldn't seem to beat that one team this season, they came in second
place and got a trophy which she was excited about! C also earned the medal of the week for the last game for "being a good sport", ha, kind of fitting for her! She says she wants to try again in the fall, this time we signed her up with the kids her age so maybe it will go a little better!
Daddy spent some time traveling this month and it was just us girls for
over a week. They are used to him traveling to central time but being on
mountain time most of this trip was throwing them off, they were
wanting to call him as they usually do when they have breakfast only it
was 5am and he was sleeping! Made for a hard time to talk to him while
he was away. We had lots of girlie time, some sleepovers and C got a new bike (well for her) and can now keep up with us when we ride home from school! He made it back for the last soccer game and for Mother's Day
which we spent with our dear friends BBQing, swimming and having a
relaxing day.
The last couple of weeks of school were fun and packed with activities! The fire truck visited and they got to explore the truck and learned about fires and how to stay safe. The VPK classes got to go on a field trip to the elementary school (its right next door so they walked) where they got to see what a day in the life of "big kid" school is like. They visited the library, got to play on the playground and had lunch in the cafeteria! We had a beach day with the other VPK families (mommy loves it when friends offer to drive us to the beach!) and C and a couple of her little friends enjoyed walking the sand and looking for shells/treasures, the waves were rough so most of the time was spent on the sand. Besides graduation the butterfly release was the next biggest thing to happen this month at school. The kids loves watching their caterpillars grow and were so excited the morning they walked in and the first butterfly hatched. Sadly some boy scouts were in their classroom one night and disrupted the tent and a couple of the cocoons fell, C's was one of them, so her caterpillar didn't hatch (but she doesn't know that since there were extras in the tent and her teacher removed the dead ones to make them think they hatched). All of the kids got to decorate their own butterfly wings to wear, they recited a poem about butterflies and then were called up two at a time to release a butterfly to the world, we also had some caterpillars and cocoons happening at home, butterflies were all around us to signify C moving on! We had Muffins with Mom this morning as well to celebrate Mother's Day, the kids made us cute gifts and cards and the teachers put out a nice spread of breakfast food for us to enjoy. It was a nice morning at school, we are going to miss AGC next year!
Graduation day was bitter sweet, the preschool chapter of our life was closing this time for good, our little preschool has held such a special place in our hearts these last four years. The teachers and school staff outdid themselves and you could really
tell all the hard work and practice that was put into making the day
special for the families. All of the kids looked adorable in their cap
and gowns, they all sang their little hearts out and were all brave
when it was their turn to talk into the microphone. C looked so old dressed in her cap and gown, she really is growing up! After graduation we had a quick lunch at Wolveshead and then the girls and I spent the rest of the day shopping and getting teachers gifts ready for the last week of school. The last week of school flew by, it's like we blinked and it was over, and yes I cried on the last day, I can't imagine not driving there in the fall, I might just need to for some visits. C soared this year in school, her teacher was amazing and she is very well prepared for Kindergarten, what out here she comes!
Someone had to go to the dentist for her first cavity filling, she was brave and a trooper once she let them put the laughing gas on her, I had to convince her (through her tears) it was just like what Pop Pop used to wear for his oxygen and it didn't hurt. It was over and done within 10 minutes and she got to pick two prizes from the toy machines. She walked around all day saying her tooth was sleeping and got a special lunch for being brave, hopefully this taught her that she needs to be better at brushing her teeth! She is doing extremely well with her reading and loves her new American Girl book, her first chapter book, she started it and is doing very well trying to read it on her own without our help. Our pool finally warmed up enough for them to swim in it, although they can swim across it in a few strokes, we've had to take to the community pool for lap swimming, C is up to swimming about eight lengths of the pool, I am so proud of this little fish! I need to start working with her on butterfly and working on her side breathing instead of her rolling over.
We celebrated school ending with a quick trip to Disney before our passes blacked out for the summer. We picked J up on her last day of school early, had some lunch on the way and were in Epcot by 4pm, it was HOT and we didn't last long, not sure what we were thinking! We did get a lot into the two hours we were there, we rode Nemo and saw the dolphins, rode Soarin, went on the Land, went in the big ball and chased butterflies around the butterfly garden before we decided to call it a night and head to Disney Springs for dinner, shopping and dessert (we found cute Aladdin cake pops). The next morning we hit the Magic Kingdom with our friends and somehow managed to stay until almost 5pm (taking it pretty slow after the morning got us and we had to recharge at lunch time). We rode rides, saw bits of the parade, sang with the bears, forced the kids to take pictures in their cute shirts and got to meet birthday Mickey and Minnie. I think all the kids favorite part of the day was getting to ride Thunder Mountain, since she got over her fear of it back at her birthday it is now one of her favorite rides! We all had a good time, Disney with friends is more magical and surprisingly again we had no meltdowns and everyone got along well for the 36 hours we were together!
Here are the pictures from the month and from Disney.
