Thanksgiving this year was the day after J's birthday, it's not until she turns 10 that both will fall on the same day. We spent the day cooking and spending time with Aunt Boo, Uncle Mikey, baby B, Nana and Pop Pop. Daddy and Uncle Mikey cooked the turkey on his new grill and it was yummy, J tried my stuffing and loved it! We had a nice day and everyone was stuffed by 6pm.
The weekend after Thanksgiving we spent decorating the house, J was most excited about getting to help decorate the tree, she loved doing it last year and was actually pretty good at it. Nana was on tree duty and spent the afternoon with J decorating while C and Pop Pop napped, daddy watched football and mommy relaxed. We separated out all of the non-breakable ornaments and J went to town with them on the bottom of the tree. She was so cute to watch and carefully placed each one on the "perfect spot". She'd get so excited when she saw an ornament she remembered, that was hers, or that she had made. The tree turned out perfect, I might have found my new tree decorating duo!
On December 1st our elf Bert made his appearance. J had been waiting"years" for him to come (she refers to everything in years, that is her time reference to date) and was so happy when she found he was back. She behaved pretty well this elf season but did get a naughty note (or two) from Bert and also a note from Santa.
J loves looking at Christmas lights and remembered from last year that I promised her a new blow-up since our Santa broke. She picked out a reindeer to join our lawn and Nana and Pop Pop got us the new laser snow shower lights so our house was pretty well decorated. The girls loved the laser lights and running around in the ones that hit the driveway. We found a cool house to visit (thanks to a mom in my mom's group) and went two or three times to watch the lights. The girls loved the house and easily watched the show for 20 minutes.
There was no waiting in line for Santa tickets this year, instead we went to a party hosted by my Mom's Group which I tell you is the way to see Santa. Not having to go to the mall was wonderful! J did great this year with Santa, she was a little timid when we were waiting but when it was our turn she popped up on his lap, gave him her list and talked his ear off! What a difference a year (and some bribery) makes. She was excited to receive her first gift from Santa and couldn't wait to open it, a mermaid and bubbles for the bath.
Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit and to stay with the girls while mommy and daddy went to a wedding. They had a good time together, J played tennis with Grandpa, Grandpa cooked them steak and they went and had breakfast with Santa at J's favorite restaurant. This time the girls didn't want much to do with him so Grandpa was the one who got a picture! They stayed a few extra days to be here for J's Christmas program at school. Again some bribery for her to not be afraid and perform with her class, she was such a big girl, happy and sang her little heart out on stage. We were all so proud of her!
She helped to make Christmas cookies for the teachers at her school. She wasn't a fan of raw cookie dough but thought the cookie press I used was cool and had a good time sprinkling them up. We also bought and built a ginger bread house. We had never made one before, glad I read the directions in the morning and realized it took a while to assemble and set. That afternoon while C was taking a nap we spent over an hour decorating the house together. When we were all done she said I needed to put a J and C on it and told me where they needed to go. Not bad for our first attempt!
She went for her four year old check-up and is doing just great. We switched doctors so she didn't get the series of shots I was dreading, they give them at five before they start kindergarten. I was prepared for some tears and a finger prick but the nurse made my day (and J's) when she pulled out this new machine, it looks like a pulse ox thing that goes on a finger, and while it takes longer, it can read iron levels through the skin, it was really cool! At the end of her visit she got all the princess stickers and a bag of cookies, she told me "Mom, I like this doctor"!
She is doing well in school and they spent a lot of time getting ready for the holidays and their program this month. Every day when I pick her up she is so excited to tell me about her day and whta all they did. She is in the ask 100 questions a day phase and I think is talking more than she every has and doesn't shut up, there are times when I ask for some silence, it really is golden! She has learned to count backwards from 10 (and the almost two year old almost has it down too!).
Here are the pictures from the month.
