Christmas started the month off. We celebrated at home with both sets of grandparents, Uncle G and Auntie V. We had two full days of eating and opening presents, thank goodness we spaced the presents out so that they got to enjoy what they opened before tearing into the next gift. J was the master present unwrapper and hurried to finish hers so that she could help C tear into hers, and commentate what she got. J exclaimed what ever the gift was followed by "AGAIN" for almost every gift, not sure what that was all about. She was excited for her new bicycle from Santa and picked up riding it pretty quickly. She is now a speed demon on her bike and has tipped it a few times going to fast around turns at the park, thank goodness for her princess helmet! There was much more of a difference in her this holiday season than last and her involvement in the spirit. I love sitting back, watching her little eyes sparkle, her mind turn and listening to what comes out of her mouth (which is a lot)!
The girls went back to Miami with Grandma and Grandpa a few days after Christmas giving mommy the opportunity to deem "Christmas is over" in our house without my helpers. I had the entire house de-Christmased and cleaned in a day! I do think J was upset when we got back in January that everything was put away but quickly forgot when she saw all of her new toys again.
We spent New Year's and the next week in Miami. We celebrated a late Christmas with cousin B, the girls love him and love to smother him to death, and of course they opened his presents for him too (click cousin B above to listen to her song she sang about him)! Daddy and Grandpa took J to her first Home Depot Kids Workshop where she got to build and paint a Kung Fu Panda spinning box. Of course the stickers didn't make it on the box and she painted it pink instead. They had some good bonding time at Grandpa's favorite store, J said she only hit her finger a few times with the hammer, Grandpa she needs more lessons in your workshop!
When we got back home it was back to the grind, back to regular bed times and back to school (we did have two Mondays off from school for MLK day and a county wide record day), the holidays were over. J was so happy that her teacher was back from leave, she loves her teacher and missed her the few weeks she was out. She immediately noticed the change in the classroom and the new stations set-up for the new year. She was excited to bring home some rosemary from their class grow box, mommy used it on pork which J thought was delicious. Speaking of learning we have started ABC Mouse at home just like cousin G. She is doing very well at re-learning her letters and the sounds they make. She loves to get her tickets so she can buy things for her room, she hasn't killed her cat, fish or hamster yet so we are off to a good start, and up to the letter E. I have to say I am quite impressed with this app, I see her remembering the letters and the sounds they make better. Every day I ask her to recite to me the sounds of the letters she has learned and she chants away. She has also told me recently she wants to learn how to read, I have to remind her she is only 4 and not to grow up too fast!
The girls had a visit to the dentist, J did great and her teeth are great. No x-rays this time but she did let them put fluoride bubbles on her teeth which she said tickled. For being a good girl she got a new Ariel tooth brush and got to go to Chick-fil-A for lunch!
We've had some colder and rainy weather this month which has kept us inside more than I would have liked (we rode bicycles a few times). I didn't want anyone getting sick or runny noses before our Disney trip so we spent lot of time playing with their new toys, dressing up and of course having tea parties! We had a mommy field trip (with friends from her class on a Thursday) to O'Brien Farms for some strawberry picking, a farm tour and homemade strawberry shortcake. The girls love strawberries so this was right up their alley, well except the shortcake part which mommy just had to eat (it was yummy!). We picked two full containers of berries that were gone in I think three days! We definitely need to come back here.
Here are the pictures from the month.
