60 months

Where has five years gone? I still can't believe I am the mother of a five year old! This was a very busy month with lots happening. When we got home from Thanksgiving/Birthday in Miami we went into full Christmas mode, Bert returned, we decorated the inside of the house and tree and put up our outside lights and inflatables. The girls were super excited that they got to help with the bottom part of the tree. They had so much fun looking at the ornaments and recalling what we had, J swore she had an Aurora ornament but she was no where to be found (I think that's because she doesn't have one). I loved watching J help C hang her ornaments when she couldn't get them on, after a while I think C gave up and let J do all the work and just watched. They got to pick out a new inflatable to add to the yard, we now have a six foot Minnie Mouse, they have already said we need Mickey next year. They enjoyed looking at lights and singing Christmas songs in the car, mommy lost all radio privileges for the month!

Santa was a hit this year and J was not timid at all. She even helped to write her list this year, which mommy completely forgot to bring with us (a reason to see Santa a second time). Of course she wanted the world and had to be talked down into Santa bringing her four gifts, we also had a little chat about how to act if she didn't get everything she wanted and to be grateful of what she did get as there were kids who would get no toys. She talked Santa's ear off and kept changing directions in the conversation, Santa probably had a headache! At the end of their visit each of the girls got a gift, J got a Belle doll and immediately said she wanted Aurora (this is what stemmed the talk on gifts).

A trip to Disney and Christmas in the same month? What more could a kid ask for? Of course we had to have a belated birthday celebration for J at the happiest place on earth! She got her birthday button (which she wouldn't wear and had to go on the stroller) and got signed cards from the characters when we had dinner at Belle's castle and breakfast with the Princesses. She got to ride everything she wanted and meet everyone she wanted too (she still is upset Aurora isn't in the Magic Kingdom anymore). She had gotten Mickey money for her birthday and enjoyed shopping for "something" at the end of each day. She brought home a mini Anna doll set, a baby Lady stuffie, and Rapunzel and Bell magic clip dolls, she was smart and saved one gift card for when we go back for C's birthday, already managing her money wisely! I'd say she had a great fifth birthday celebration that lasted "weeks" as she says.

J had her five year old checkup (which I had been dreading). She is doing great and up to 43.25 inches and is just shy of 40 pounds, she was very talkative with the doctor once she found out she isn't the one who gives the shots. They were able to check her iron by putting the machine on her finger, I was happy we didn't have to do a finger prick on top of all the shots! She got three of them into her bony little arms and she was not a happy camper, she started crying before they started and screamed bloody murder as the nurse gave them to her. The tears just rolled down her face and I felt so bad for her, I don't know why it was easier for me to watch them as babies than this time. Earlier that day we had gone to Walmart and she picked out a new box of Paw Patrol Band-Aids for her shots, she's probably the only kid who takes her own Band-Aids to the doctor! At the end of the visit she got some stickers and animal crackers, they helped some to dry up the many tears. Thank goodness she doesn't need this many shots ever again, it is torture!

School flew by this month with all the holiday excitement. They did many holiday arts and crafts in class, they made ornaments, picture frames, had a Christmas card exchange (J signed and addressed her cards all by herself) and spent lots of time practicing for their program, J was excited she got to be an angel just like I was back in preschool. Another mom and I planned a small Christmas party on their last day of school (also PJ day), they decorated cookies, made candy cane bead ornaments and decorated Christmas trees. This was the first time I spent any length of time with her class, they are all great kids and a well behaved class, now I know why her teacher is always impressed by them!

At some point in the month they learned to crack eggs at school, she couldn't wait to tell me what she learned how to do! One night I was getting dinner ready (we were having pancakes and eggs) and J told me she wanted to help, of course I was skeptical thinking we'd have a bowl of eggshells. Well she surprised me, she only got one small shell into the eggs, we couldn't fish it out so someone ate it!

They are a little camera shy of late then they are singing. The only way I can get video is to be sneaky and not let them see me. J loves to make up her own songs, maybe she will be a song writer instead of an artist since she is tone deaf! The girls are into keeping each other company when they go potty, they are actually quite funny to watch and listen to what comes out of their mouths, for two little girls they sure can stink up a bathroom (and clog a toilet).

The month ended with getting ready for Christmas. This year school ended so close to Christmas that there wasn't much time to spend baking. Mommy made a couple of quick batches of cookies and let the girls decorate some. After about six cookies each they were done and sprinkles were everywhere! Next year we need to use paint brushes and do this outside! We had a quiet Christmas Eve at home enjoying time with family and the girls couldn't wait to start tearing into gifts! J liked sitting in my chair at the computer watching Santa on his route, next year she should be able to read herself where he is (and I guess we can't trick her that he is over our house)!

Here are the pictures from the month.
