I'm not sure what I was thinking when I booked Disney for Mother's Day weekend. A new character dining experience came out, I was able to score reservations and thought it would be fun to surprise the girls. There aren't many opportunities to meet the princes, and what mom doesn't want to meet Flynn Rider!
We drove over Saturday morning, the girls have this trip down pat and don't ask the famous question 100 times, instead they count what episode of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers they are one and can judge how much longer the trip is. After dropping our stuff off at the hotel and picking up G&G we headed to the Magic Kingdom for a full planned afternoon/evening, everyone pretty much knows how I roll in Disney, and while I have relaxed some with the itinerary it is still pretty full! We saw the new castle show and rode the tea cups before having some lunch. After lunch we rode Peter Pan and then headed for the moment we all had been waiting for (well all of us except J), for C to meet Elena wearing her Elena dress. It was all she talked about literally for "weeks" when she found out we were going, she was so excited to meet her idol in her new dress!
The anticipation leading up to the princess meet and greet room is pretty cute. Both girls wait to see down which hall they send us and then take bets on which princess will be first, it's typically Cinderella to which C has to put her excitement on hold for a few minutes before she runs over to hug Elena. This day was no different except she was in her dress, twirling her hair and waiting so very patiently! As soon as we entered the room she noticed her dress was not exactly the same, while hers had white, Elena's dress did not. Of course that was the first question she asked her as she ran up and hugged her. They talked, laughed, posed for some pictures and
twirled together before we left, poor J stood in the corner not really into it, she had to be bribed for a picture. I love seeing C so happy with her
idol, she really is mesmerized by her.
G&G took the girls to see the Country Bears while Mommy and Daddy had a Dole Whip and saved a parade spot, we've found a good shady spot over in Frontier Land. After waiting for almost 45 minutes, the rain came in and the parade ended up being cancelled. We waited for it to slow up and made our way back to Fantasy Land for some ice cream and to see if it would let up enough for a family trip on the Mine Train. I woke up at 6:45am 30 days prior to get the FastPasses, you know I was riding that train! C was super excited that she was finally tall enough to ride, J on the other hand was not thrilled that we drug her on. J whined and cried most of the ride, C watched as we
turned every corner and her eyes lit up when we got inside the mine
cave and she saw the animatronics, she wasn't scared when we went down
the two drops and when the ride was over wanted to go again! Mommy found her new coasting partner! The radar showed more bad weather coming and we decided to get out while we were still dry! I had been looking forward to the new fireworks show and was disappointed we didn't get to see it, later this fall when it is cooler!
Sunday morning we woke up and headed over to the Boardwalk for our character breakfast. The girls had no idea where we were or what we were doing except they were hungry and wanted to eat! We had a later reservation so I had to spoil the surprise so that they could see the last entrance of the characters into the dining room. J said she guessed who was there, she saw the cart selling Ariel and Rapunzel souvenirs and said she just knew it was them. What she didn't know was that Prince Eric and Flynn Rider were there too, I think I was more excited than they were. The food was pretty yummy and the character interactions were pretty good, I think because we were at the close they were ready to be done (note to self and others, don't go at the end of meal time). Of course C was excited to see Ariel and squealed when she saw her, she was a bit timid with Eric. Both girls love Rapunzel and mommy (and Grandma) thought Flynn was mighty cute!
After breakfast we walked over to Epcot and headed to meet the characters, the girls love Minnie and always run to her, they are both getting better with Goofy and his intimidating size. We tried to go on Soarin, one was upset she wasn't tall enough to ride, the other one cried and pitched a fit that she was scared, and this is when I put a palm to my forehead! It was the end of the Flower and Garden show so we looked around at the somewhat dying flowers (it was hot) and took in the butterfly tent. After growing their butterflies in class J was very into the exhibit and would have spent an hour in there if I would have let her. She enjoyed looking for caterpillars
and cocoons, she was pretty good at spotting them!
We rode the ball, they are fascinated with that ride, I have no clue why, it's a good break and rest time! Then we headed to the countries to have a drink (or two) to celebrate Mother's Day! The girls finally meet Mulan in China, we've asked them every time and they always say no so when they said yes I was surprised. She was really great with them and spent lots of time talking to them and showing them her necklace, maybe now I can get them to watch the movie to learn about her. Daddy and Grandpa got a beer in Germany and the girls got a GIANT pretzel! Mommy and Grandma had some prosecco in Italy while the girls watched the Mime do some magic. It was then time to make our way to the car and head back to the hotel to get out bags.
We had a nice weekend and while I wasn't catered to I enjoyed spending time in the most magical place on Earth! And I was the best mommy ever for letting them have McDonald's in the car on the way home, drink trays are my new favorite meal organizer for the car!
