68 months

This month marked the end of what at times seemed never ending, but at other times too short of a summer vacation. We made the most of the last few days of summer and headed to Orlando for a couple of quick trips. First we went with Nana on a little staycation, we had been promising the girls a big surprise and when our trip to see the Mermaids got squashed I had to come up with something more than bowling. Marriott points rescued us for a night and the girls loved the super cool pool (and J was too chicken to go down the bigger water slide with me!). They also got to play B-I-N-G-O, paint shells, and stay up way late in the pool (till like 10pm!). It was a quick 24 hour trip but we packed in lots of fun (they are already talking about when we can go back).

The weekend before school started we headed to Disney for a little family time. The bonus was Aunt Boo, Uncle Mikey and B were there too! I'm totally starting to let go some at Disney and not jam pack our day. This day we didn't even get to the park until after 3pm, we were trying to keep out of the heat but that is hard in Florida! We rode some rides, saw some princesses and dodged a storm that rolled in (my $5 stroller cover is still going strong!). J finally got to be a part in the Enchanted Tales with Belle, she was Chip and "hopped" right up to the part, daddy got to be a knight! The best part was seeing the new castle show, the lights, music and fireworks make for an incredible sight, J sang her heart out to the songs a top of Uncle Mikey's shoulders! Sunday before we headed home we hit up the Studios for some shows, a few rides and got to meet the famous Mouses in their Hollywood attire. We had a nice weekend, that we all needed, away from home and our crazy life! When in Disney you can forget all the worries!

We came home to a jam packed and exciting week. I wasn't sure I was ready for this week to happen but it did, and thankfully there weren't many tears and we all survived. Two days before school started we went and met her teacher and took supplies in. We quickly found cubbie to put her stuff in and she found her seat and posed for a picture. It was a bit chaotic and not what I expected, we barely got to talk to the teacher and spent most of the time filling out MANY forms, I felt like a deer in the headlights when we left! The first day of school came and went and the mixed feelings I had got better when her teacher started communicating and sharing pictures with us via the class app on the first day. It was great to see the pictures and the kids so happy and enjoying their first day. J's day starts with her special class (it's nice to get PE out of the way early) and ends with recess time (first thing she wants to do when she gets home is change from her sweaty clothes). She is enjoying the morning news and can't wait to tell me what Mr. Richardson (the principal) says that day, she thinks he is hilarious! We've been biking to school, we'll I've been biking and getting my cross training in pulling 50 pounds in the trailer! A few weeks in I make her car ride one morning and she had her first meltdown when she had to get out of the car by herself, other than that day she's been great about going in and each day wants me to walk her just a little father away from the door! She has enjoyed music and art class and they just started in the computer lab (they go every day after lunch). She can't wait to tell me if she got a "Gator Bait" and got to "special paint" during centers on Fridays for being good. Gator Baits are the schools reward system and each quarter the students who get so many of them get something special. J loves to get a Gator Bait, I think she might have the most in her class!  She mastered the first sight word list (the blue list) and is working on the yellow. There are 10 lists she should learn this year, lets see how our little reader does. She is excited for one of us to sign her binder each day and see the stamp her teacher gave her for the day. As you can see she is adjusting very well and doing great!

Swimming will be coming to an end when we move so we made the most of the last few weeks in the pool. J continues to be a fish and is diving to the bottom of the pool, trying to do hand stands and somersaults in the water and even floated for 30 seconds by herself!

She had a good visit to the dentist, no cavities and got a good report on her brushing. The dentist did tell her that she has the tiniest of a loose tooth (when she pressed on it with the picker), she couldn't wait to tell and ask me to feel it (you can feel nothing). I picked her up early from school to watch the solar eclipse, at first she was interested in it, then it got boring and they just wanted to watch TV and play, mommy was outside for over an hour watching it! The girls have enjoyed going to the library and checking out books, J is starting to recognize her sight words as we read, I was afraid she was just memorizing the flash cards! Pop Pop was their dress-up subject one night, the things you don't do for your grandkids!

Here are the pictures from the month.
