5th year in the books

You only turn five once so of course it has to be big, or big in the mind of the child! She spent what seemed like a month planning the perfect family party in Miami, Paw Patrol was her theme (but only the girl pups) and she gave me a run down of everything she wanted: a Paw Patrol skirt to wear, balloons, Paw Patrol cake (made by mommy), pink "5" candle, Paw Patrol plates/napkins and table cloth which she got to pick out, pink flowers, steak, tomatoes and bread. Grandma and mommy pulled it off and I think we made this little girl happy.

J is my home body and would most of the time rather stay home in her PJs than go out, so when I asked her what she wanted to do for her birthday before her party and she said stay home in her jammies I wasn't surprised and that's just what we did. While she played with her new Paw Patrol toys mommy spent two hours in the kitchen decorating the perfect cake for her. When it was done and she saw it she gave me a huge smile and told me I was the best mommy ever (the inside of the cake even matched the outside, I forgot to get a picture of it). It was then time to take showers, blow dry her crazy hair and shoot some birthday pictures (thanks to the mosquitoes from the night before it looks like she has horns on her forehead, hence why my two favorite pictures I turned black and white). She was somewhat of a cooperative subject and looked super cute in the skirt mommy made for her.

Everyone then started arriving, just family here in Miami we are 18, so much for a small get together. She was very interested in all the presents she saw so after making her wait probably what seemed like an eternity to her we let her open them! She got some new clothes, some princess stuff and gift cards to shop in Disney. Then it was time for Grandpa to fire up the grill and make his princess some "steakie". This kid can down a plate of meat and tomatoes and I think she probably also ate half of a loaf of French bread! She was happy and that is all that mattered.

It was finally time for the cake she had been talking about for "weeks". She isn't into being the center of attention so she was a little shy when everyone started singing to her. She made her wishes, twice since she blew out the candle before we could sing in Portuguese, and then dove into a piece of her blue and pink cake. She stayed up way past her bedtime (C let us know she was partied out and ready for bed around 8) and had a wonderful day with her family. Shout out to Grandma for making sure everything was perfectly pink for her princess.

When we got home we celebrated her birthday twice more, at school with her friends and with Nana and Pop Pop. At school we had her request of vanilla cupcakes, she was shy when everyone sang and would not wear her birthday crown. Later than night we celebrated with her dinner request of chicken tenders and mac and cheese followed by homemade ice cream cake. I'd say this kid made out with all her celebrations and cakes!

She had an awesome year and I'm sure if I asked her she would tell me that Disney was the best parts of the year. She's been five for over a week not and I still can't believe she is an entire hand in age. It seems like it was yesterday that she was my butterball. I love the little lady she is becoming but sometimes wish I had my baby back. To the start of her next chapter and the excitement of getting ready for Kindergarten later next year (mommy has a whole eight months to ball her eyes out)!

Here are the pictures from the day.
