I feel like I am on a repeat about school because this kid is doing amazing and loving it! There isn't a day that goes by that she isn't ready to head out the door, she enjoys getting to school early so that she can sit in the hallway and talk to her friends, and getting there early means the drop off line isn't that long, she still isn't a fan we are car riding in the morning but it is easier (and less sweaty) for mom! The first grading period ended last month and the kids got their awards about a week later. J racked up the awards and took home all three (and three prizes to go along with them). She is going to be disappointed next quarter when she doesn't get them all as she will not have perfect attendance again.
She continues to be purple on the color chart at least one day a week, and her new thing is telling me she has a "surprise" for me and that she has to show me at home, of course I know it's what is written in her binder. I helped with her classes Halloween party and got to meet all of the kids she talks about, it was a fun time and J was glad that I was there. She passed her purple sight word test and has moved onto the orange list, which she is already doing well on. She and her one friend are the two furthest along with their words, hoping to be through the next list before Christmas break. They weren't supposed to have school the week of Thanksgiving but had days to make up from Hurricane Irma. The two days they were in school were a little more relaxed than a regular week, they had a class Thanksgiving party and both mommy and daddy had lunch with her on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, of course she wanted McDonalds. We got to sit outside and enjoy the new picnic tables they put in. After lunch she showed us her artwork in the hallway, the sight word board and we chose an angel from the school tree.
We have been working on her reading at home at night with books. She has also taken an interest to work on reading by herself and is attempting to read the small board Dr. Seuss books that are in the bathroom, she is doing pretty well and can get through most of them (they are shorter versions of the longer books). One night she attempted the entire full version of Green Eggs and Ham, she did pretty well and only got stuck a few times. She is enjoying reading which I love and it doesn't seem to be a dreaded activity for her.
The girls got to see me run my first race the Saturday before Halloween. In spirit of the race they dressed in their costumes (J was Village Belle) to cheer me on. They were a bit obsessed with the person who ran in the inflatable dinosaur costume and we had to wait 20+ minutes after I finished (I got a PR) to watch it run down the street and cross the finish line, they giggled and started screaming when they saw it coming, not sure how the heck they ran in it! The day before Halloween we remembered we had forgotten to carve our pumpkin so I pulled out some paint and each of them got to decide what to paint their half. J choose to paint hers pink for Aurora, she added blonde hair and silver dots, looked nothing like Aurora but she thought it did! Halloween night we went to Chick-fil-A with friends for dinner and then did a little trick-or-treating in their neighborhood, just enough celebration and candy for the girls (and mommy), we got done just as the mosquitoes were coming for us.
J's perfect attendance (and her chance of another sweep at the next awards ceremony) was shot when we went to Disney for race weekend! J got to miss two days of school for mommy's big weekend! She was excited to wake-up early and that she got to go with me to watch daddy cross the finish line, she was so excited for him! She (and the rest of the family) got to watch me that Sunday morning finish my race and got to put my last sticker on my chart. We did get a little park time in when we were there and J got over her not wanting to go on the Toy Story ride, somehow daddy got her to like the ride again. We had a wonderful family weekend and I'm glad the girls got to see our accomplishments, they love our shiny medals! Maybe one day she will want to run a Disney kids race, first I need to get her to sign-up for runners club at school, she says it too hot and "boring". Not sure what was up with her this trip but she actually cooperated for pictures and wanted to get the "magic shots" taken.
Thanksgiving this year fell a few days before J's birthday and Pop Pop came over that afternoon. We watched the Macy's Parade while I cooked, J was interested in it at times but was more interested in playing with her new Lego set she got from her cousins. Being that we were going to Disney for her birthday we let her open a gift from someone each day and spaced presents out. She quickly put together her new Cinderella set (just as she does every other set) and enjoyed turning the dining room table into a Legoland. After the Legos were away she loved coloring on the table cloth and in her new coloring books she got from Nana and Pop Pop. She wasn't that into the food spread I had, she did eat some turkey and mommy was nice and made them some mac and cheese. It was a nice day with family which is what we all needed.
The day before her birthday (Friday) she got to open her presents from her sister, of course another Lego set that C picked out just for her (and of course C chose her favorite princess Ariel as the set to get her). We watched the Canes loose (her turnover chain didn't give us luck) and Aunt Boo, Uncle Mikey and B came over for a re-do of Thanksgiving dinner. She was super excited for her Belle castle she got from them and was pretty disappointed when I told her she had to wait until Sunday to build it! Now she really has a village of Legos! As I kissed her goodnight before going to bed I couldn't help but snap a sweet picture of her fast asleep, so peaceful when she sleeps (and she likes to be cocooned in her covers).
She ended being five with her first wiggly tooth. Sometime this Thanksgiving week we noticed it was actually lose and could wiggle it some. She was so excited about it and to be just like two of her cousins who have already lost teeth (including one four year old!). Can time just stand still a little longer...not sure mom is ready for this!
Here are the pictures from the month (Disney will be in another post).
