Two Wheels

Yesterday was a big day in our house! Daddy taught J to ride her bike without training wheels. She has been scootering to school since the first of the year which has really helped with her balancing. We packed up the car and headed over to her school to have some clear areas to ride. First she wanted the training wheels loose, rode like that for maybe five minutes around the covered area, then wanted one wheel removed, daddy took them both off and in less than five minutes (I was too busy helping C) he was taking her to the grass to let her go! Off she went and soared, and eventually told us she didn't need any help and that she had it! We Facetimed Nana to show her, she had happy tears for J, and her cousins, J is the first of the bunch to ride without training wheels, she was very proud of herself for getting to do something first!

I didn't think she would have gotten it this easily and she surprised the heck out of us, and was so proud of herself and kept smiling! We spent about an hour letting her ride and get comfortable, she was mostly going in a straight line back and forth to the little hill, she figured out how to start herself and eventually was brave enough to get on the sidewalk/pavement for a little bit! By lunchtime she was exhausted and asking for a special McDonald's lunch, how could we say no?

We headed back for round two later in the afternoon, this time we surprised Grandma and Grandpa with her new driving skills and she took to navigating the covered area and bus loop. She got more comfortable, was making turns, not just riding in a line and was trying to encourage her sister to ride without training wheels too (that was not successful). She got to bike all the way home and did a great job, not once did she fall all day, she more like jumps off the side of her seat to stop. I asked if she wanted to ride to school this week, she says she needs to practice a little more, I think you got it kid but we will do more practicing! We are so proud of you J, you were brave and fearless!
