The terrible two's are in full swing and we are both ready to pull our hair out. I don't know how single parents handle this age! Depending on the moment we either have Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde (and I even have her calling herself the names depending on her mood) at our hands...UGH! I still can't grasp the one minute she is nuts and screaming and then a couple minutes later she is back to being a sweet angel. Asking her to brush her teeth, get dressed, pick-up toys, eat, go to school, you name it and it sets off her Dr. Jekyll personality! She has even gotten a coupe of write-ups at school for hitting her friends and teacher and also for kicking her friend while they were arguing over who's Frozen song it was. Oh to be two! I know it is hard on them and that they are at the age where they don't fully understand and want to be big people but come on! Parents of two year old deserve a gold medal! And when my sister's twins hit two she should get platinum!
Otherwise at school J is excelling and is one of the smartest in her class, not to brag just being honest. She is clearly her teacher Miss J's favorite and the two are like two peas in a pod (they do share the same name, but of course my J argues that it's her name not Miss J's name!). She can spell her name and this month in school they learned the parts of the flower, I didn't even remember what the corolla, pistol and stamen were. J is getting better at coloring and is attempting to draw shapes. She loves to paint and is a little Picasso.
Potty training at school is still going well. She went two weeks at one point without an accident. Her teachers still can not believe she won't go on the potty at home. I've tried to bribe her with all kinds of rewards but she wants nothing to do with them. She insists on wearing Pull-Ups at home, just like wubbie I need to cut the cord on those, but I know when I do (for both) Dr. Jekyll is going to come out in full force so we best better be 150% prepared for the challenge!
We are rounding out this semester of swimming. I'd say J is doing well for her age, we just need her to turn her kickers up a notch or two. She is doing better at floating on her back and is learning to roll over. Next at the end of May we will move to the next level and a new teacher. Her love and fearlessness for water continues on the weekends at the splash park downtown and at home in her pool and playing with her new water table. We are ready for summer, just not the mosquitoes that come with it.
What else happened this month?? We celebrated mommy's birthday and Mother's Day. I did something I probably shouldn't have and introduced J to nail polish. Now she wants her fingers and toes painted all the time! She even got to pick out her own polish at Target, one pink and one glitter. We are starting her young in helping around the house with tools, she got to help us hang the curtains in C's room, the next generations of little McGyver. J continues to be a great big sister and loves her C bear. She is attentive when C fusses and tries to calm her down, she wants to help with everything and has to help drop off C each morning at school. She is also very protective when C is in her class and tells her friends to "walk away from HER baby C"!
