Rewind two weeks...most of this week was spent in Miami with family, although some did not know we were coming. I raced around Friday night trying to pack us all up, our flight out was at 7am the next morning. We (as in my sisters, myself, our husbands and our dear friends from the UK) were hoping to pull off the biggest surprise we had ever planned...I can officially say "Mission Accomplished"!
J was pretty good during the flight. We were lucky enough to get a seat for her so we were able to take the car seat on board, the car seat makes a world of difference in not having to hold her for a three hour flight!. She ate, played, napped and before we knew it we were in Sunny South Florida and Grandma and Grandpa were at the airport picking us up.
So what was so special about this trip??? For Saturday night we had planned, something that was almost seven months in the making, a surprise 60th birthday party for my parents, Nana and Pop Pop. See they thought they were going to dinner with my sister and brother-in-law to celebrate her promotion at work, little did they know they would get their family and closest friends for the night instead. To quote my Mom's Facebook post "This was the biggest surprise ever"!
Unfortunately J did not get to enjoy much of the party. As soon as we
yelled "surprise" she broke down and into tears. Between all the
unfamiliar faces and the commotion she was very unsettled. She got to
say hi to her Nana and Pop Pop and headed to bed. The first hour or so
of the party is a total blur to me since I was tending to J. I did keep
her around long enough to see our friends from the UK shock the crap out
of my mom...we didn't get you once we got you three times!
Sunday we had to clean up and then got to relax a little before heading over to Nana and Pop Pops house for dinner with the family. Everyone actually got to see J (in a good mood) and she got to play with her cousin (he was up the entire party and was perfectly content watching his Pooh video in his pillow fort) well as much as the two of them can play together. We had leftovers for dinner (of course we cooked for an army) and then called it a night. Everyone was exhausted from the day before.
Monday Fonz and G came over to my in-laws house for a morning swim and then we went to the Ale House for lunch. J had her first bite of a hot dog, thanks G for sharing! Keeping an 18 and nine month old entertained is a work out! After lunch we went and visited Nana for the afternoon. J and G played and then it was time to go and relax some with pizza and wine!
Tuesday we took it easy in the morning and just hung out. We went to La Carreta (my Cuban fix of the trip) for lunch and then went to visit my Gram at the cemetery. Since we were home in June for her funeral they have gotten her plaque engraved and vase up. It still is hard to believe that I can't just pick up the phone and call her, but I am glad that I can take J to see her and that J has another angel watching over her. We then went back to Nana's for nap time, which turned into two little monkeys playing in the crib. That night we (Nana and Aunt Fonz babysat J) went out to celebrate my father-in-laws birthday, see the trip was all about birthdays, only his was 61 :) Good food and good wine and then it was time to head back and hit the hay. We had an early flight out Wednesday morning.
We got back to Dallas around 10am Wednesday morning. Our baby who was a little angel on the way to Miami was a HANDFUL (not bad just wired) on the way back. It was like she was on a sugar high. I jokingly asked my mom what she save her when she was babysitting her. She went straight to daycare on our way home! We tried to recuperate the last two days of the week, that didn't happen, maybe we'll get a little rest on the weekend!
Click here for the pictures, there are not as many as I would have liked to have taken. It was just a LITTLE hectic :)
a moment, a memory ... of a lifetime. this mom will forever be grateful of the love of her children xo
