After almost a month at home this month started with J going to camp for the week! Dr. Seuss was the theme and while she told me on Friday she didn't want to do camp anymore she seemed to have a great week. Some of her friends from school were there and she met some new kids. They did all kids of arts and crafts projects to go with the book of the day, did hunts on the playground, the Kona Ice truck visited and J got a watermelon/strawberry snow cone, and the week ended with water day on Friday.
Grandma and Grandpa came over to spend Fourth of July with us. We (along with all four grandparents)
took the girls to see Finding Dory, J had been to the "cool theater, with cool chairs" before with Nana. While she laughed and seemed to enjoy the movie (and ate her snow caps and popcorn) when we left she said it was "boring" her favorite word of late! After the movies we went and had lunch, it was nice to spend the day with both sets of grandparents making memories for the girls. We BBQed for forth of July (Vo can't come and not cook steakie for his girls) but the weather wasn't good to swim in the pool.
We did some arts and crafts this month, needed things to pass the time! J went to a day of art camp (she was supposed to go for the week but they said she was too young after the first day, boo) to the ceramic place up on Main Street. The day she went they painted a little ceramic tray, I think she did a pretty good job for her age and she had a great time. She was very disappointed when I had to tell her that she couldn't go back, maybe next year when she is 5 (which is the age you are supposed to be). My mom's group does a preschool aged arts and crafts event every month, we've made a few of them and when I saw the months event I quickly signed the girls up. We went to the Cookie Cottage down in Sarasota to decorate cookies! J had a blast icing and decorating her half dozen cookies, she took her time and was very precise in her decorations, the colors had to be perfect. She was too busy decorating that she only ate one cookie while we were there, she couldn't wait to show them to daddy, although sharing with him was another subject! We went with her friend Katie (and her little brother) to Michael's and lunch afterwards one day. During the summer Michael's does kids crafts three days a week, I need to remember this for next year, it is inexpensive and kept the kids busy for over an hour. This day the kids made little clay model animals (which melted because we left them in the hot car while we had lunch) and decorated owls with things mommy doesn't let in the house, feathers, sequins and glitter! The kids had a great time and they left with remnants in their hair!
I took the girls for their first Slurpee on 7-11 day, they were not fans, mommy ended up drinking two! We had friends over to the house for a pancake and PJ breakfast one morning. A morning play date worked out so well, everyone was in a great mood, ate well and played together nicely! So much better than afternoon cranky kids! Frozen yogurt cured some afternoon craziness and got us out of the house on PJ days. It's tough entertaining kids!
J is doing great with her swimming, future Olympian in training! She is making it across the pool with her big arms and is working on taking a breath (remembering to kick is the hardest part). She wants no help floating and is trying to teach herself to kick on her back, she is making some progress but could use mommy's help. I tried to teach her to dolphin kick (we were watching the Olympic Trials and she saw them do the butterfly) and she sort of got it, we just need to continue to practice it. She is fearless and I love it!
J partook in her first two photo shoots this month. The first was for Judanzy where she modeled two outfits for their new Fall/Winter collection. She was a little shy and timid during the first outfit, it was hard to get a smile out of her, but they got one that landed her on the scroll on their home page (I think she is the third slide). By the second outfit she was a little more fun and loosened up some! She modeled a shirt that was designed by one of the owners daughters that was picked out just for her since she likes to color/draw. After we were done we had a mommy/daughter lunch date at Pei Wei, her request and went to the mall to buy her some new clothes since she is outgrowing her 4T's.
A week later we helped a fellow mom in my group who is launching a new business making and selling girls skirts, necklaces and headbands. Her stuff is really cute and if I didn't sew I'd buy from her. The girls cooperated (thanks to Smarties and we got some great shots in exchange for their smiles. They were also bribed with Dunkin Donuts after, J of course was happy to get her pink donuts!
Here are the pictures from the month.
