School Update

The first week of school is going great! We are adjusting to a new schedule that gets us up early and out the door each day now with J in VPK, no more PJ days during the week (well thanks to Tropical Storm Hermine we get one tomorrow!). J is doing great and there are six kids in her class from last year so she is very comfortable with the environment, there is only one new girl in the class so I am making it a point to tell J each day to make sure to include and play with her too and not just her "old friends" as she calls them. She has enjoyed the last three mornings searching for her chair (this year the chairs have their names on them and it is not a free for all where they sit) and finding out who she gets to sit with for the day. This week is pretty much a "get to know you and the class week" and when I've asked J what they have done she says "stuff". Today she was excited to tell me that they played Duck-Duck-Goose in the church because it was raining outside and that her teacher took their pictures so that she can make the helper cards for their calendar and board (J's favorite job last year was the weather checker). She has also been very proud to tell me that she has eaten all of her lunch, the new Bento style lunchbox might be the trick to get her to eat (that and letting her help my pack her lunch each morning).

Yesterday when we took J to school and C saw that her classroom was dark and closed she looked at me with her big eyes and said "no school for me today, I get to stay with you mommy". Yesterday I spent some time talking with her about school and how she has to be a big girl, not cry, use the potty and that mommy will come and pick her up after lunch. This morning she told me she wasn't going to cry but as we walked into school she clung to me like glue, we first dropped J off (where J's teacher told me that on Monday J was very concerned and asking about how C was doing, so sweet) and as soon as we got to her classroom and started putting her things away the tears broke out, her teacher took her and I scooted out the door. I went back to say bye to J since I felt rushed and by the time I got back down to C's room she was calming down and starting to play. She was so excited to see me when I picked her up and had lots to tell me about her day on the car ride home (she talked more than J did). Her teacher said she had a great day, used the potty twice (no accidents, Monday she had two poop accidents) and got a sticker for being a good helper.

They each had their first homework assignment, J's teacher is turning theirs into place mats for lunch, C's teacher put hers up on their board this morning. C asked today if she had more homework to do, it was cute!
