Week 31

What a week we had in Miami (back to June 22nd)! The week flew by and it seems that when were just settling in it was time to go. When we were leaving my mom said "I don't think we even had five minutes to talk". With the little ones now things are utterly chaotic and everything revolves around them!

Friday mommy and daddy headed to the Keys for our annual football pool party weekend with our friends. Two nights away meant each set of grandparents got equal time with J. She  spent the first half with Grandma and Grandpa and the second half with Nana and Pop Pop. Despite the ugly weather (thanks to the tropical system that was sitting in the Gulf) we had a nice time in the Keys and it was nice  to not have to worry about J for 48 hours. Too bad the weather wasn't cooperative, no sandbar and no suntan for me.

Sunday when we got back to the mainland both families (minus those driving down from Jax) got together for dinner at my in-laws house. We had a traditional Brazilian meal of fejoida, collard greens, oranges and some pork to go along with it. It was yummy! And of course the beer and champagne were flowing! Lots of catching up to do and lots of pictures taken.

Monday was J's seven month birthday and also the day we said goodbye to Gram. It was the first time in a LONG time that the entire family (to include my aunt, uncle and cousins) had all been together. This was the week that Gram had been looking forward to for the last couple of months as she knew that everyone would all be together. It is sad that she wasn't able to be with her entire family one last time but she left us knowing that everything is good and  in a good place. We had a mass at the nursing home she lived in and then a family burial at the cemetery. Next time we go to Miami her plaque should be done and she will be amazed at how much J has grown. Afterwards we all got together for family dinner and to hang out in the pool. Family dinner wouldn't have been complete without Gram's cheese ball and chocolate cake!

Tuesday morning we took the babies on their first trip to Matheson Hammock, a place we spent many days each summer swimming and dip netting as kids. The weather was overcast and it was pretty windy so we didn't stay long. J had her first encounter with sand but we didn't get to go in the water, it was too windy and the water was cool. Tuesday afternoon we had a little relax time and then went to the Ale House for some nachos, chicken wings and beer without the little ones! I don't know what Dallas hasn't discovered the Ale House yet, if we had one it would be busy all the time!

Wednesday was our last day in Miami.  In the morning we went to the park for a little while, there really wasn't anything for J to do since they didn't have infant swings but G had a good time and so did I taking lot of pictures of the kids! After the park we went back to Nana's for lunch and for the babies to take a nap. J practiced her scottin, she got much better as the week went and then we had to say our goodbyes :(

We stopped and visited with Pop Pop at the shop for a little while and then headed back to start packing. That night we had BBQ at Grandma and Grandpa's and called it an early night as our flight was at 7:30am the next morning! J was an angel on the flight home, now to get us all back into our routine!

  1. moments to treasure ... nana loved having everyone home and all together - yet it was as always too short ... and yes it is all about the babies - although sometimes i miss my moments with my two big girls :) ... saw a sign i'm going to hang in the nursery/kids room ... "Grandma House - A place where cousins become friends!" ... to our futures xo
